Being Empty

The Divine Call to Empty Ourselves: A Spiritual Transformation

The Example of Christ's Self-Emptying

Jesus demonstrated the ultimate example of emptying oneself by leaving His heavenly glory. He prayed; "And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own glory which I had with thee before the world was." (John 17:5)

This prayer reveals that He gave up something profound, which was later restored.

This same glory is promised to believers, as stated: "The glory which thou gavest me I have given them." (John 17:22)

Jesus’ self-emptying is not just an act of humility but a model for how believers can align with God’s will.

The Process of Spiritual Emptying

To follow Christ’s example, we must empty ourselves of the things that hinder our spiritual growth:

• Fear and anxiety: "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

• Human reasoning and limitations: Trusting God often means setting aside our understanding.

• Church-centric mindsets: Avoid limiting God’s power to specific structures or traditions.

• Preconceived notions about ministry and evangelism: Be open to God’s unique direction in fulfilling the Great Commission.

Becoming One with the Word

Our true identity is found in becoming like the living Word. Hebrews 4:12 declares; "For the word of God is quick, and powerful." By emptying ourselves, of the things that are empty and don’t lift us up, we synchronize with God’s life for us, transforming into vessels for His purpose.

This transformation allows us to "embrace the mind of Christ" that we have, as we begin to see there is no other mind for us, to act on. (1 Corinthians 2:16), aligning our thoughts and actions with God’s will.

The True Nature of Kingdom Power

Kingdom power flows from:

• Complete submission to God’s authority: Obedience unlocks His power.

• Recognition of our divine mandate: Knowing our purpose in Christ empowers us.

• Understanding our position in Christ: "Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." (1 John 4:4).

Divine Authority in Evangelism

Effective evangelism is rooted in divine authority, demonstrated through:

• Casting out demons: "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils" (Mark 16:17).

• Healing the sick: "They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover" (Mark 16:18).

  • Preaching The Good News, which does include bad news for all that is demonic

• Discipling nations: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations." (Matthew 28:19)

Walking in Divine Confidence

Resting in the Mind of Christ and the finished work, having the same vision of Jesus/Yeshua demands :

• No panic anymore: "Be not afraid, only believe." (Mark 5:36)

• No stress: "Cast thy burden upon the LORD.” (Psalm 55:22)

• No striving: "Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit." (Zechariah 4:6)

Confidence in God’s authority equips believers to act decisively.

The Power of Living Without Fear

God commands us to live fearlessly. The Lord promises; "I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." (Isaiah 41:10)

This fearless living enables us to act on the Gospel rather than react to circumstances. He holds our authority and our right to complete what is set before us. This is our natural state and our prayer didn’t make that happen

Perfect love drives out fear.

"There is no fear in love, but perfect love casteth out fear." (1 John 4:18)

Love is in you and you are in Love, consider what that means and read this scripture again. Live free of fear, we can fully embrace God’s calling and demonstrate His power in the world.

The journey of emptying ourselves mirrors Christ's own example of laying aside His glory. This process isn't about losing our identity, but rather about discovering our true nature as vessels of God's power. By emptying ourselves of fear, human limitations, and religious traditions that don't align with Scripture, we position ourselves to operate in the fullness of divine authority. This transformation enables us to move in power without panic, stress, or striving – simply flowing in the quiet confidence that comes from knowing who we are in Christ.

1. Begin today by identifying one area where you're holding onto human reasoning rather than God's Word

2. Take 15 minutes daily this week to meditate on Scriptures about your identity in Christ

3. Practice stepping out in authority in small ways - start with blessing people, speaking life, and exercising the authority you already have

4. Let go of religious traditions that don't align with Scripture's portrayal of power and authority

5. Document your journey of emptying yourself and note the changes in how you approach challenges

Remember, "He must increase, but I must decrease." (John 3:30) Don't wait for a special moment or more preparation – start your journey of emptying yourself today. As you empty yourself of your own strength, watch how God's power flows more freely through your life.
